This past Saturday the all star game between the Brewers League all stars and the M St. Park all stars was canceled due to the heavy rains that fell on Friday night. The playing field was under six inches of water making it unfit to play on. The game is rescheduled for this coming Saturday. Players and spectators should be at the park by 12:30.

Monday’s Games:
Citystyle Clothing 8, Corner Tavern 6 - Citystyle scored five runs in the third inning with key hits by Tommy Connolly and Pat Sullivan to hold off a late inning comeback by the Corner Tavern. Jim Burgio hit a two-out homerun to left center to cut the lead to two and Bob Dobay followed with a triple to put the tying run at the plate. But pitcher Jimmy McNiff, kept his cool and got the next batter to fly out to center to earn the victory.

DJ Linnehans 9, Shannon’s Tavern 1 - After Mike Prendergast hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first, Linnehans pitcher John Gregorio recomposed himself and shutdown Shannon’s offense for the remainder of the game. Steve Hannon and Marty Jiminez both had key hits for Linnehans.

In the top of the first inning, Jiminez hit a sinking line drive to center-field where outfielder Timmy Malley attempted to make a sliding catch on the ball. The ball got away and as Malley rolled to a stop he injured his right arm. At the time, most thought the injury wasn’t serious as Timmy stayed in the game. A late trip to the hospital proved otherwise. Malley, who is the coach and a key player in his team’s success, will surely be missed by his teammates. The league would like to wish Timmy a speedy recovery.

Tommy Greene pitched another effective game for Deeney O’Malleys.

Corner Tavern 8, L St. Tavern 3 - Corner Tavern’s pitcher Mark Senna, regained his early season form, as he held the L St. Tavern to five hits. Mike Linskey and Bob Dobay homered and drove in three runs each for the Tavern. In a losing effort, Vinny Pino collected three of his team’s five hits.

Thursday’s Games:
DJ Linnehans 10, Corner Tavern 7 - Ronny Gurley hit a first inning grand slam and Brendan Flynn added a three-run homer in the second to put Linnehans in front and they didn’t look back. Pitcher's Dan Donavan and John Gregorio combined for the fourth victory in a row for Linnehans.

Deeney O’Malleys 1, L St. Tavern 0 - By forfeit, Citystyle Clothing 13, Shannon’s Tavern 1 - Revenge was on the mind of the Citystyle players as they hammered Shannon’s Tavern in five innings. The last game Citystyle lost was a 3-2 defeat to Shannon’s back on July 10. They have won six in a row and are about to lock up first place. Chris Burnell pitched another fine game for Citystyle and Dan Flaherty provided the offense.

League Notes: Congratulations to Jimmy Ahern of Shannon’s Tavern. Over this past weekend, Jimmy won a Belly Flopping contest held at Eastover Resort. It took Jimmy five flops to win the prize. Ouch!!
