The champs stopped some doubting thoughts on Monday when they were backed by another strong pitching performance by Larry Lucas, who led them to a 5-2 win that evened the best of five National League series with Old Towne at 1-1.

In the american League, it appears that the Bayside Club will be relaxing a bit waiting for the Triple O's - Old Towne survivor. At least, after the 14-7 slap they leveled on the Teamster's Pub gave them a 2-0 lead in the series, one victory away from the finals.

But it was the "rise-to-the-occasion" win by Triple O's that sent the chilled gathering home anticipating a long series that coulb be scheduled to end tonight., depending on Tuesday's and Wednesday's results. If not, the championship will start tonight.

Triple O's was down 1-0, in the fifth inning when Brian Casey cut through th ewind with a long three-run home run and a 3-1 lead. Lucas took over from there, with the help of an upheld appeal play that cost Old Towne the tieing run. again, Old Towne's Ed Bonano was sharp and Kevin Walsh knocked home both runs with singles.

Bonano backboned a 4-3 eight inning win for Old Towne in the series opener last Friday. Old Towne nearly lost the game in a final inning rally by Triple O's that sent the game into extra innings.

triples O's followed up with a win in game two, their first win in three tries against Bonano and teh Old Towners.

Bayside, meanwhile, hasn't had any trouble handling anybody. They jolted Teamster's with a couple of two-run home runs in the first inning by Kevin Finn and Paul LeBlanc. Teamster's kept scratching at Bayside but eventually fell by the score of 6-4. Finn belted a two-run homer and Bob Miller banged out the winning hit with a two-out two-run single.

Teamster's gained a spot opposite Bayside with a 6-2 win over Canavan's Pub, ending that series in two games. A five-run fourth inning busted open this one as Ed Brady whirled his way through Canavan's for the victory. In two years as M Street, the Teamster's have never lost to Canavan's, posting a 5-0-1 record.

Triple O's is battling Old Towne now but they got plenty of preparation in pressure games when Old Harbor put out an intense battle to force a three game series. Again, it was Lucas who came through with a 4-0 shutout in the final game to prevent a monumental upset. triples by Brian Feeney and Joe Anderson set up two of the runs while Kevin Ryan delivered a clutch two out single for two RBI. Billy Eliot again did yeoman work on the mound for Old Harbor, whose play was inspiring and sound throughout.

OHAC made their series in game two when they won 9-1, shelling Lucas who came out of the bullpen to a 1-1 fifth inning tie. When he left the inning his team was trailing by eight. 'The Rifleman' forgot his bullets in this one as OHAC unleashed a few mortar shells of their own, topped by a Pa O'Toole two-run double and a John Flynn bad hop, three-run home run.
