MORAN CLUB SWEEPS OPPONENTS AWAY, CLINCHES FIRST

When Sidewalk's Tom Dickey connected for a three-run homer to defeat the Sam Moran Club back in late May, nobody thought that would be the only loss the Moran Club would suffer. Nineteen wins later, the only blemish to a perfect season is that one defeat.

Losing that game so early in the season may have forced coach Sam Moran to seek out more proven players to strengthen the team. As the season wore on, that is just what he did adding veteran pitcher Tommy Greene, big hitter Bobby McGarrell, speedster Dorsey Connolly, and outfielder Jimmy McEvoy. Moran's team is now loaded with talent in every position. They proved it last week when they pounded out twenty-two hits and trounced rival Sidewalk 18-1.

After suffering from their embarrasing loss, the Sidewalk Cafe bouced back to defeat the Seapoint Restaurant in an all important game for second place. The Cafe boys trailed the game in the third by a handful when outfielder John Young started a one-out rally that would tie the game at six. Sidewalk then went ahead to stay but not before getting a scare in the seventh. Behind by a half dozen runs, the Seapointers rallied to get the lead runs in scoring position with two outs. But firstbaseman Bob Dobay ended their comeback when he handled a hot grounder that was hit down the line and steped on the bag for the final out.

In other action, Molly Darcy's continued their run for fifth place with a win over the Boston Beer Garden. The game featured a father-son match-up with Molly's pitcher Jack Rogers on the mound, and son Rob at the plate for the Beer Garden. Although Jack got the win, son Rob got the last laugh when he took dad deep for a homerun in the seventh inning. As the two walked off of the field together, I wondered who would be offered the 'Life Saver.'

The recent sale of raffle tickets have not gone weel leaving the banquet at seasons end in jeopardy. The league has extended the drawing for two more weeks in an attempt to raise enough money. The league is still looking for a few singers to perform the National Anthem in some upcoming playoff games. Please contact me at the park.
