MORAN CLUB AND MURPHY'S LAW FALL

As the league entered the fourth week of the season two teams had yet to taste defeat. The Sam Moran Club held a 4-0-1 record and Murphy's Law was cruising along at 5-0. Sitting alone at the top of the standings, these two teams were about to have company.

On Monday, the Sidewalk Café took on rival Sam Moran Club in their second meeting of the season. Sidewalk was looking to avenge an opening day loss that saw the Moran Club rally from a 9-1 deficit for a come from behind win. Revenge wouldn't come easy for Sidewalk in this one as Moran plated three runs in the top of the first inning and were playing with confidence. But the Sidewalk Café showed some toughness and character when they answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to grab a one run lead. Sidewalk never relinquished the lead as they limited the Moran offense to just four hits and tacked on seven more runs for an impressive 11-4 victory. With the win, Sidewalk moved ahead of the Moran Club in the standings.

With Moran's loss on Monday night, Murphy's Law proudly entered Tuesday's game as the only remaining undefeated team in the league. Unfortunately, Murphy's played a red-hot L Street Tavern team that had just won three games in a row and was playing great softball. Mark Landolphi, Dan McElaney, and Jim Sullivan (homerun) led L Street's hitting attack that produced a 9-0 lead after two innings of play. Murphy's threatened to score in the third and then again in the fifth but L Street's strong defense kept them off of the scoreboard. Murphy's eventually scored a run in the seventh but it was too little too late as L Street continued their winning streak with the 9-1 win.

Other news, the very talented Quietman Pub is quietly sitting in fifth place and may be the dark horse of the league come playoff time. Molly Darcy's played well last week and coach Tony Moran has his players hungry for their first win of the season. Seapoint Restaurant, who finished in third place last year, is off to a horrible start at 1-6 and needs a big week to get back in the race. Help may be on the way as Joey Burke returned from a four-year work related layoff and pitched impressively in his debut last week. Coach Brian Ahearn needs to get more from his players in order for Seapoint to be competitive. Quality Painting (1-6) is also looking to turn their season around as they are expected to make some personnel moves this week. After winning their first three games of the season, the Shamrock Pub have fallen on tough times and has lost three out of their last four. As Sam Moran says, "you win some, you lose some." Good luck! See you at the park.
