Opening night games were rained out but the rest of the week schedule presented plenty of action with the League Champions Y.I.P. Club pulling one out from the much improved young Whitey's Place team. The first upset of the year was by one of the newly transferred teams into the National League, My Town Tavern, which defeated Rabbit Inn in an outstanding see-saw run-scoring game with a 2-run homer by Timmy Long being the big hit of the game. One of the other transferred teams (to the American LEague) the much improved McGrail Club was given a scare and a well played game by the 201 Club. The McGrail Club was led by the hard hitting of Jackie Farrell, who on his first time at bat, lined one off the right field fence and also lined a homerun to help the McGrail Club to its second win of the season over the Joker's Club.

The American League Champions of last year, Canavan's Pub, picked right up where they left off with a big win over the Social Club led by their outstanding pitcher Tommy Greene. Another team that looks to have improved from last year is the Triple O's Lounge with Kevin Weeks providing the big hits.

Come on out and see some of Southie's best athletes play some of the best softball around. But please, if you bring beer, make sure you put the empties in the trash barrel when you leave. Pat O'Toole does a fantastic job on the fields, but he needs your help so the kids will not break the bottles on the field. It is our field and our League, take care of it.
