PLAYOFF RACE HEATS UP

There are only three weeks remaining in the season and the battle for place appears to be a three team race between the Sam Moran Club, Sidewalk Cafe, and the Seapoint Restaurant. The race will get even hotter when these three rivals begin playing one another in the coming weeks.

The most exciting game last week was played between Olde Time Hardware and the Moran Club on Monday night. The seventh place Hardware boys were looking to pull off another upset as they led by one run (5-4) entering the top of the seventh inning. But the Moran Club rallied for a run to tie it and were looking to slugger Jim Burgio to put them in the lead. With the count 0-2, Olde Time's pitcher Jim McNiff tried to sneak a change-up pat the big right-handed batter. Number sevety-two wasn't fooled as he smacked the pitch over the fence in deep center for a home run that put the Moran Club ahead to stay.

In other action, the Sidewalk Cafe kept up the pace as they knocked off the Old Harbor Club (11-2) and the Kelly Club (11-1). Sidewalk's offense was powered by Bob Sweeney (1 HR, 5 RBI) and Danny Flaherty (2 doubles, 2 RBI).

Molly Darcy's topped off a perfect week with a 16-5 rout over the New Team. Molly's behind their level headed pitcher Jack Rogers, continues to win the games that they are supposed to as they now have themselves in a position to grab fourth place.

Old Harbor's Derek Wyshiniski spear-headed his club to their second victory of the season as when they defeated Rooney's 17-14. Wyshiniski leads by example as he hustles on every play in every game. Once trailing by fifteen runs and late in the game, a well hit ball flew thirty feet over his head in deep center field. Where most people would have given up, Derek chased after the ball as if it was the deciding run in a tied game.

Quote of the Week:
"I don;t hear nothing," yelled coach Sam Moran to his players in a recent game. "That's because Tyson bit your ears off," replied catcher Frank Medico of Olde Time Hardware.
