As temperatures soared, so did last week's action at M Street Park. Starting the week off, L Street Tavern suffered its first loss of the season to the Flaherty Club. Flaherty's six run first inning proved to be enough for veteran pitcher, John McGrath, who kept batters off stride all evening.

Another exciting game involved the Flaherty Club on Wednesday when they faced The Abbey. The cards were stacked high against The Abbey when the Flaherty Club brought out veteran star pitcher Larry Lucas to pitch his debut game of the season. Despite the odds, the Abbey players rose to the challenge, and squeaked out a 6-4 victory. The Abbey was led by veteran lefty pitcher Don Senna's masterful performance, along with great defense, and timely hitting by Bob Sweeney (home run, 3 RBI), and Mike Sibert's 2 RBI's.

As the season moves into its seventh week, the standings are extremely tight. With seven out of the eleven teams within two games of each other, upcoming games will undoubtedly be close and exciting. Fan support is encouraged and appreciated by all the players and coaches. So be sure to come up and see South Boston's finest softball league.
