The first two weeks of the season are now history and if last Friday's extra inning game between the Sam Moran Club and the Duffley Club is any indication of things to come then this season will surely be an exciting one.

The two-time defending champions entered Friday's game with a 2-0 record and were looking to knock off the Duffley Club, owners of a 1-1 record. After trading runs in the early going, second baseman Joey Magee put Moran ahead when he smacked a two-run homer to left that appeared to suck the life out of the Duffley Club.

With the lead now gone and the momentum on the side of the defending champions, the Duffley Club fought back and scored four runs in the home half of the fifth that was highlighted by Steven Muldowney's two-run blast to left-center. The big lead didn't last long though as the "no lead is safe against us" Moran Club answered with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh on a two-run homer by Charlie Joyce. The Duffley Club failed to score in the seventh, which then brought extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Billy Morin's two-out single to right scored Jim Burgio from second giving the Moran Club the lead. But as they had done earlier, the Duffley Club showed character and fought back in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Rob Rogers doubled to left and scored the game-tying run when Jay Rooney singled to center. Moran then managed to record the next two outs and with the score now tied the two teams had to call it a draw due to time constraints at the field.

Two other undefeated teams challenging the Moran Club at the top of the standings are Murphy's Law and the Shamrock Pub. Although the Shamrock is a new entry, the players on this team have played together in the past. Shamrock plays with a good defense and a powerful offense that is led by first baseman Jay Schnable (13-10 .769) and third baseman Pat Clifford. Schnable has already connected for three long home runs and is a sure threat every time he sets foot into the batters box.

Murphy's Law is almost an identical match to the Shamrock Pub. Murphy's can play sound defense and light up the scoreboard on any given night. Mike Smith, Sean Malone, and Jack Rogers are a few of the many talented players that make up this very competitive team. Shamrock and Murphy's face each other three times this year and each game should be an exciting one with plenty of offensive fireworks.

With the steady influx of talented players migrating to the league coupled with competitive games like we had last week, M Street Softball is earning back its proud reputation as the premier league in the city of Boston. Make it a point to catch a few games at M Street Park this week. The weather has been beautiful and the on field action plentiful.
