Tuesday, May 27 marks the beginning of another season of softball at M Street Park. There will be three games a night played Monday-friday with the first game starting at 6PM. As of this writing the league will consist of twelve teams.

The Moran Club, coached by legend Sam Moran, appears to be the early favorite. Sam has assembled a team loaded with talent with the likes of Marty Jiminez, Brendan Flynn, Ronny Gurley, Jim Burgio, John Gregorio, Joey Magee, Billy Morin, and John McGrath.

Another contender is the sidewalk Cafe, who vows to give the Moran Club a run for its money. This team lost only one game last year and all but one player has returned for another season of play. Jason O'Connell, Tom Dickey, Tom Nelson, Dennis Lynch, and Bob Sweeney make up the Sidewalk infield that some believ is the best in the city.

The ever improving Steve Muldowney led team will also challenge for the top spot in the standings. Returning players include talented shortstop Jimmy Muldowney, Todd Boylan, Bill Louberry, Brian Benoit, Tommy Mahoney, and ageless Tommy "Strikes" Greene, who will take the mound for his twentieth season of softball at M Street.

The team formally known as Shannon's has plenty of question marks up and down the lineup. Coach, Jim Ahern may have to borrow some winning secrets from Rick Pitino to give his team a fighting chance.

New entries in the league are: The Jim Kelly Club who are coached by Danny Lamonica, Boston Beer Garden (Tod Defers), Rooney's Bar & Grille (Peter Drummey), Molly Darcy's (Mike Duffley), Bay View Liquors (Timmy Talbot), and the Corner Tavern (James McCarthy).

These six new teams have something to prove in what could be a very competitive league. Each of these teams have some good players in key positions but are also loaded with plenty of first year players who may find the going a bit bumby at times.

I would like to wish good luck to all of the teams and have a great season. "Everyone beware, Sam Moran is here!"
